La Turchia, primo paese del Consiglio d’Europa ad aver ratificato il 12 marzo 2012 la Convenzione d’Istanbul (così chiamata perché aperta alla firma, il 7 aprile 2011, nella città del Bosforo), si è ritirata ieri dal trattato sovranazionale contro la violenza nei confronti delle donne e la violenza domestica.
L’uscita è stata disposta con un decreto del presidente Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, che ha attirato l’immediata condanna del Chp, principale partito d’opposizione. Ma per i conservatori dell’Akp si tratta invece di una mossa saggia, ritenendo che la Convenzione d’Istanbul danneggi l’unità familiare, incoraggi il divorzio e sia strumentalizzata dalla comunità Lgbt+ per appoggiare le loro rivendicazioni in tema di pari uguaglianza.
Secondo Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk, ministra della Famiglia, del Lavoro e dei Servizi sociali, la Costituzione e la legislazione turca bastano a «garantire i diritti delle donne», mentre il Governo continuerà la «lotta contro la violenza sulla donne con il principio di tolleranza zero».
