È Regina Duarte, stella delle telenovelas brasiliane, la nuova Segretaria speciale alla Cultura. L’attrice 72enne (ne compirà 73 il 5 febbraio) ha accettato ieri l’incarico, propostole dal presidente Jair Bolsonaro, dopo che il 17 gennaio il suo predecessore Robert Alvin era finito nella bufera e destituito per aver citato, in un video ufficiale, il ministro del Reich per l’Istruzione pubblica e la Propaganda, Joseph Goebbels.
Storicamente legata al partito centrista del Partido de la Social Democracia Brasileña (Psdb) con tendenze oscillanti tra centro-sinistra e centro-destra, è stata una fiera oppositrice di Lula. Duarte ha sostenuto Jair Bolsonaro alle presidenziali del 2018 ed è attualmente ritenuta una donna di destra.
Nel 2009 aveva pubblicamente appoggiato l’União Democrática Ruralista nella questione della delimitazione delle terre indigene e quilombola nello Stato di San Paolo. Lei e suo marito Eduardo Lippincott sono infatti allevatori di bestiame di razza Brahman a Barretos nella mesoregione di Ribeirão Pretoa dello Stato di San Paolo.
Regina Duarte avrà davanti a sé un compito davvero complesso: conciliare il suo background politico di centrista e l’appartenenza alla comunità artistica brasiliana, totalmente in rotta contro il presidente di estrema destra, con il nuovo incarico affidatole.
Il mondo artistico e intellettuale brasiliano è apparso comunque diviso non appena si è diffusa la notizia che Bolsonaro intendeva nominarla a capo della Segreteria speciale della Cultura. Alcune personalità ritengono che un’esponente della comunità possa essere consapevole dei loro problemi.
«È di destra, ma non è nazista – così la produttrice Paula Lavigna, moglie del famoso cantante Caetano Veloso, all’Estadão -. Credo che in questo contesto di totale smantellamento della cultura ci possa aiutare».
In ogni caso, come dichiarato da Sérgio Augusto, critico d’arte e editorialista del quotidiano Estadão, «per lei sarà impossibile andare contro le esigenze del governo e fare quello che crede giusto. Se proverà a essere politicamente indipendente, verrà destituita».
Da quando Bolsonaro si è insediato come presidente, il 1° gennaio 2019, e ha soppresso il ministero della Cultura, creando la Segreteria speciale in dipendenza dal ministero della Cittadinanza – poi trasferita in novembre sotto le competenze di quello del Turismo – Duarte è la quarta a esserne a capo, preceduta da Robert Alvin (7 novembre 2019 – 17 gennaio 2020), Ricardo Braga (9 settembre 2019 – 6 novembre 2019) ed Henrique Medeiros Pires (1° gennaio 2019 – 21 agosto 2019).
