Si è spenta ieri sera a Palermo la scrittrice, giornalista e attivista Lgbti Delia Vaccarello, che lottava da anni contro il cancro.
Nata nel capoluogo siciliano il 7 ottobre 1960, Delia si era laureata in filosofia presso l’università Sapienza di Roma. Nel 1990 aveva iniziato a collaborare con L’Unità, dove curava la pagina Lgbti Uno, due, tre… liberi tutti.
Noto e apprezzato il suo impegno di docenza presso le scuole di giornalismo di Bologna e Urbino e, in collaborazione con Gaynet (la cui tessera era la prima e unica che possedeva a livello associativo Lgbti sì da rimarcarlo con orgoglio) e gli Odg regionali, per i corsi di formazione giornalistica.
Nel 2004 e 2008 era stata vincitrice del Journalist Award, indetto dalla Commissione europea, coi rispettivi articoli I militari gay sfidano l’esercito dei pregiudizi e Vivere da gay morire da etero.
Tra i suoi libri sono da ricordare L’amore secondo noi. Ragazzi e ragazze alla ricerca dell’identità (Oscar Mondadori, Milano 2005), Quando si ama si deve partire (Oscar Mondadori, Milano 2008), Evviva la neve (Mondadori Strade blu, Milano 2010) e, soprattutto, l’ultima opera Desiderio. Racconti di Eros, Segreti e Bugie (Villaggio Maori, Catania 2019).
Sempre per la Mondadori aveva curato, a partire dal 2003, la collana di antologie Principesse Azzurre. Racconti d’amore e di vita di donne tra donne, nella quale compariva anche come autrice.
Uscirà invece postuma in ottobre, quasi come testamento spirituale, la prefazione al volume collettaneo Torniamo a Stonewall, curato da Francesco Lepore e Yuri Guaiana per i tipi catanesi Villaggio Maori.
